Steve Waugh
Steve has deep roots in the great state of
Maryland. He was born in Annapolis, the city from which his
mother’s family hails. When it came time for college, Steve
followed in his father’s footsteps and attended the US Naval
Academy.
After a lifetime spent travelling the world as a United States
Marine, Steve moved the family back to Southern Maryland for
his final tour of duty in uniform. At that point he knew he
was home. In the years that followed his love for southern
Maryland – its natural bounties and potential for the highest
possible quality of life – grew into an irrepressible desire
to serve the region.
Steve’s life has been characterized by service and success,
personally and professionally. He’s faced the challenges that
come with spending thousands of hours at the controls of AV-8
Harrier jump jets. He’s led Marines in combat. He’s also been
a leader on the business front in southern Maryland, including
service as the chairman of the Naval Aviation Enterprise War
Council with over a billion dollars of buying power. In this
capacity he ensured the ongoing viability of the region as it
supports the nation’s defense needs with technologies like
unmanned aircraft and next-generation computer networks. Steve
has since joined The Johns Hopkins University, Applied Physics
Laboratory where he manages advanced engineering programs.
Steve is experienced and gets results.
But Steve’s greatest pride comes from being a husband and
father and watching his family thrive with all the region
offers. Blessed with the opportunity to raise his family for
years in both Saint Mary’s county and Calvert County, Steve
learned firsthand the unique aspects of the churches, schools,
neighborhoods, roads and economy of each county. Whether
accompanying his oldest son to Annapolis to start Plebe Summer
or cheering his youngest son to victory on the lacrosse fields
of Patuxent High School, he fully appreciates the gift that is
life in southern Maryland. But like all gifts, it is one that
can be taken away. And it is being taken away – with higher
taxes, haphazard growth, and increased unemployment.
Fortunately, in a democracy bad government can be remedied.
And that’s why Steve is running to be District 29’s next State
Senator. Steve’s most fundamental belief is that government
should reflect the will and needs of the people it represents.
His diverse background as a patriot, businessman, neighbor,
father and husband is the guarantee of the right kind of
leadership for the district – not the tone-deaf “business as
usual” approach that threatens our hopes and dreams.
Steve is counting on your support. Help us, won’t you? It’s
time to “Work with Waugh.”
